What is a piston ring?
Piston Ring is a metal ring used to fit inside the groove of the piston. It is the core component of the engine. There are two kinds of gas rings and oil rings. Usually, the first and second channels of the piston are gas rings, and the third channel is the oil ring.

The main function of the piston ring
Prevent the gas in the cylinder from leaking into the crankcase and play a sealing role; conduct 70%~80% of the heat of the piston head to the cylinder wall; make the oil film on the cylinder wall evenly distributed to improve lubrication conditions; scrape excess oil on the cylinder wall to ensure that the amount of oil on the cylinder wall is moderate and uniform so that the piston can move freely in the cylinder.
The main function of the gas ring is sealing and heat transfer. If the seal is not good, not only the engine power will decrease, but the consumption of fuel and oil will increase, but also because the piston ring and the gas ring wall are not tightly fitted, the heat on the top of the piston cannot be transmitted out, which will cause the piston and piston ring to burn out due to excessive temperature.
The function of the oil ring is to form the necessary oil film to lubricate the piston and the cylinder wall while scraping off excess oil on the cylinder wall.
The harm of carbon deposits to piston rings: carbon deposits in the piston ring grooves will make the edge clearance and back clearance of the piston ring smaller, and there will be no clearance, resulting in the loss of elasticity of the piston ring. After the piston ring is stuck in the ring groove, the oil can not be controlled and leaked out, resulting in the phenomenon of oil burning.
