How to replace car piston rings?

If you want your vehicle to run efficiently, you should install piston rings between the piston and the cylinder. Special attention is required during the replacement of piston rings. That's why people like to drive their cars to the garage to get things done with ease. If you want to try it, then you will need some necessary tools and the car's repair manual. Let's take a closer look at this process.
Step 1: Locate the Piston Rings
First, you need to gain access to the piston rings by removing the cylinder head. Be sure to disconnect the required items before removing the parts. Drain the coolant before removing the exhaust manifold. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts holding the important parts.
When done, disconnect the distributor, and unplug the spark plug wire. Carefully loosen the valve angle. The real challenge comes with the putter and swingarm. You'll find a nut on the top of each swingarm; remove them independently. Finally, pull the putter over your head.
A pro tip for removing the cylinder head retaining bolts is to start with the bolts on the outside. Clean the top of each cylinder of dirt and grease before going to the next step.
 
Step 2: Clean Piston and Remove Ring
Cleaning must be done before replacing piston rings. The process may seem simple, but it requires extra attention until the end. When you cap all the cylinder bores, you'll feel relieved that debris from the piston won't fall into the cylinder. Now, clean the dirt before pulling out the piston.
In many cars, the piston rings cannot be replaced without removing the piston. In general, it can vary from car to car. Therefore, please consult the service manual to learn more about the concept. In a well-ventilated area, use some kerosene and dip all the removed pistons in it.

Step 3: Insert New Piston Rings
Use the piston ring tool to stretch the replacement. Be extra careful as they can break if you stretch them too much. It is best to hold the piston ring in the ring groove. During this process, check the piston twice to make sure you don't run into any problems when replacing the connecting rod.
The final step is to reverse the whole process. It is essential to check the cylinder head gasket before replacing the cylinder head. It is best to replace the piston rings while they are working on them. Reconnect everything and place the cylinder head on the engine block.
